AOS Joins New UAS Sub-Committee

astraeaSmallEarlier this year, the Australian Aerospace Industry Forum’s Certification & Regulation Working Group invited aerospace industry representatives to meet and discuss a joint government/industry approach to further develop the current regulatory framework for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS, e.g. Global Hawk and Predator).

Managing Director, Andrew Lucas, represented AOS at the by-invitation-only meeting at CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) Operations Headquarters at Brisbane Airport, where it was unanimously agreed that a joint approach was appropriate. A UAS sub-committee was established with a brief to assist the development of the Australian UAS regulatory framework.

Since AOS UK already has experience in drafting UAS regulation through its partner association with the ASTRAEA (Autonomous Systems Technology Related Airborne Evaluation & Assessment) project, Andrew Lucas is looking forward to working on Australian Aerospace’s sub-committee.

The sub-committee’s first official meeting is scheduled for 12 March at the Avalon Airshow.
